Why did you decide to become a PT/PTA?
Beside my background in helping others I strongly believe that being a physically active person contributed to me choosing a carrier in Physical Therapy. From an early age I became involve in organized gymnastics and dance competitions. To this day I keep myself fit. No matter how hard my day is at school, I still make time to work out or dance every day.

How do you think your background helps you as:

a.) A current student? I was brought up in a very hard working family. Both my parents were always working. As a child I would often go to work with my mom who worked as a cook in a nursing home. My parents had only achieved a high school education but both were avid readers that constantly encourage me to read, study and get the best grades possible. Little did I know at the time that they were doing the best they could to ensure that I had an opportunity to go further in life than they did.

b.) A future clinician? Going to work with my mom I quickly became friends with many of the elderly residents. Many of them were wheelchair bound and I thought pushing them around the nursing home grounds was the greatest thing. I had no idea I was actually helping them to regain some of their joy, which many of them had let go. It quickly became apparent that I not only enjoyed helping the elderly and disabled but I also had a knack for it.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Who knows, I do enjoy going to school, I might even continue to pursue an advanced degree in the field. What is your ultimate goal as a PT/PTA? My ultimate goal is to help children, especially disabled children. I’d like to help them overcome whatever handicap they are experiencing so that they may not only succeed in life but they would also enjoy life.
