July Student Highlight of the Month

Meet Haley Rosenwald!

The July NYPTA SSIG Student Highlight

Meet Haley Rosenwald! The July NYPTA SSIG Student Highlight. She is an SPT from Ithaca College, Class of 2020, who possesses outstanding characteristics and is improving the lives of others in her community. She has donated 8-12 inches of her hair through Locks of Love, Pantene Beautiful Lengths, and Children with Hair Loss a total of 5 times and looks to continue donating. She volunteered at Glen Rock Physical Therapy in her hometown for 3 years and volunteered at the Glen Rock Jewish Center (Special Needs Children’s Classroom) as a teacher’s aide for 2 years. Haley is a part of the Ithaca College Physical Therapy Student Association, IC Hillel, IC Club Tennis and has also received numerous awards for her academic excellence.

Here is what Haley had to say about what makes her passionate about PT: I have been an athlete my whole life, which has led me to become fascinated by the human body. As soon as I learned that being a PT was a possible career path, I knew this is what I wanted to do. I love the relationship PTs have with their patients, and I appreciate the impact that PTs have on their patients’ lives. I look forward to being the light in my future patients’ days by encouraging them to see their abilities rather than disabilities. I am eager to help improve my future patients’ health so they can have a better quality of life. As a PT, I am most excited to help turn patients’ struggles with physical challenges, such as recovering from a limb amputation or a TBI, into experiences where they become aware of their incredible resilience and willpower. I have been interested in prosthetics and amputation for years; this niche is high on my list of possible specialties to go into as a PT. I hope to show my patients how worthy they truly are through, rather than in spite of, the journey their physical body is taking them on.

Here is what Haley had to say about her plans after graduation: I have thought a lot about the steps I would like to take in my career after graduation, such as opening my own practice, and contributing to research. Immediately after graduating with my DPT in 2022, my goal is to have a job stemming from a clinical round I completed during my graduate years of school. I would like to pursue a specialization in either prosthesis/amputation, pediatric special needs, or TBI. I would love to work in a hospital setting with patients who have just had a rotationplasty. Also, I would love to work closely with other PTs, OTs and engineers to develop personalized prosthesis and provide rehabilitation to patients. I am very interested in how PTs, OTs, nurses, doctors, and various other therapists work together to care for a patient as a unit, and I look forward to being a part of that one day.

The NYPTA SSIG officers want to hear about the ways in which students like Haley demonstrate the core values of accountability, altruism, compassion/caring, excellence, integrity, professional duty, and social responsibility! Nominate yourself or a fellow student and start inspiring others!
