Hello to all,

Did you miss us?  The first quarter of the New Year has been a busy time for your Advisory Panel on legislation, your Legislative Liaisons, your PAC Committee, and the NYPTA Leadership.  As Editor in Chief of this e newsletter, I apologize for not publishing the monthly editions for the last few months.  With that said, let’s catch up on what is happening.

Grassroots Advocacy

First, I am happy to report that APOL and your Legislative Liaisons embarked on our exciting grassroots advocacy initiative.  We have been working hard to visit our legislators in their home offices.  We have been successful in making visits and we have garnered additional support and sponsorships for our bills as a result of some of the visits.   I want to thank the liaisons and all members who have volunteered to make visits in their districts.

Lobby Day

Lobby day is Tuesday May 13, 2014.  We are in full planning mode.  Chapter will be providing transportation for each district.  Please register on line and join us in Albany for Lobby Day 2014.  Attendees will be awarded continuing education hours.

Our PTA bill (S3555 Griffo) is on the Senate Labor Committee agenda for Monday April 28, 2014.  We have mobilized members to make calls to the committee members to ask them to move the bill out of committee to the Senate floor for a vote.

Delegate Assembly

Our annual Delegate Assembly will be taking place on Saturday May 3, 2014 at the Marriott in Saratoga Springs, NY.  Please look for election results and a summary of the meeting in the NYPTA Newsletter and next months NYPT impact.

Early Intervention

Legislation was developed out of the joint efforts of the NYPTA, the NYSOTA, and the NY Speech Association was introduced by Assemblyman Gottfried on Tuesday January 14, 2014.  Hopefully, each of your responded to our president Matt Hyland’s call to action and reached out to their legislators to voice urge them to support this vital piece of legislation, that will ensure that EI providers are paid within 30 days of the submitting for payment.

NYPTA remains very active in insuring that our members who provide services to this most vulnerable population have a voice and our support.

APOL and the PAC Committee along with NYPTA leadership have planned our Inaugural NYPT PAC Golf Outing.  This is the first of what will be an annual fundraising event for our PAC.  Our goal was to have 7 foursomes for this event.  I am pleased to announce that we have met that goal and we have sponsorships from our vendors who have graciously supported this effort.

The outing will be held at the Saratoga Spa Golf Course on Sunday May 4, 2014.  The event is designed as a “Stay and Play” for those individuals who attended Delegate Assembly.  We look forward to a fun filled day of golf and activities.

Till next time, all the best,

Mike Mattia, PT DPT MS MHA
