New York Medical College DPT Students Host 15th Annual Race for Rehab to Benefit Achilles International

The 15th annual Race for Rehab hosted by the Doctor of Physical Therapy students in the School of Health Sciences and Practice at New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY, went off without a hitch on October 13th. One hundred ninety-nine participants, including thirty Achilles athletes, participated in the race. The year-long effort raised $9,700 for the Achilles International (AI), a world-wide organization that encourages people with physical challenges to participate in athletic events, regardless of speed, level of ability or age. This brings the total amount donated to AI by the DPT students to $100,000 since the race began. The Achilles athletes in attendance repeatedly expressed their gratitude for the welcome they received from the NYMC community.

The race was organized by second-year physical therapy students with the support of Anthony M. Sozzo, M.A., M.S.Ed., associate dean for student affairs and director of student activities and student financial planning, and faculty advisor Janet Dolot, PT, DPT, OCS, assistant professor of clinical physical therapy. Many local citizens and organizations, including the Hudson Valley District of the NYPTA contributed to the race’s success with their donations to the cause. The race included certified 5K and certified 10K routes; and raffles and children’s activities were also available so that fun was had by all.
