Hello NYPTA Member;

I will start this month news with a quote from Thomas Edison:

"Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up."

I know we are all disappointed and very frustrated that our Legislative initiatives failed to gain passage during this Legislative session -- I share your feelings. However, I believe that we have achieved an unprecedented common ground amongst all members and non members. We have brought great light to our initiatives and we have moved them forward. One only needs to realize the significant number of our legislators who have signed on in support of our bills to see we have moved the line forward. We are closer than ever and we must continue to push forward. I have had many very engaged and passionate discussions with fellow PT’s regarding raising public awareness and the various mechanisms that can potentially carry our message out to the masses. I can tell you that this level of energy and discussion is what will lead us to success. We have a strategy plan that includes the services of a media consultant who has and will continue to help us to get our message out there. We welcome new ideas and fresh approaches, so please keep the suggestions coming.

NYPTA leadership continues to monitor our environment and is at the ready to address any issue(s) that affect PT practice in New York State. A prime example occurred this past month. President Matt Hyland addressed the policy of the CDPHP which includes Chiropractic visits in the annual PT visit allocation. His eloquent and data driven response, which can be found on the home page of the NYPTA website under “Latest News” (, led CDPHP to revisit their existing policy.

NYPTA, APOL and PAC remains committed to our Legislative Plan. I urge you to continue to work with us with the same level of enthusiasm and fortitude because we DO realize how close we are!

Until next month, all the best,

Mike Mattia, PT DPT MS MHA
Chair, Advisory Panel on Legislation
