CDPHP Responds to NYPTA

I am happy to inform everyone that my letter to the President of CDPHP, as well as the use of social media, has gotten the attention of CDPHP. A call was received this morning from the CDPHP Director of Provider Relations, Brian Cocozza. Following is a brief synopsis of that call:

  1. CDPHP will revisit the policy of allowing chiropractors to bill physical medicine codes and use those visits toward the members’ physical therapy benefits within the next week or two. No promises were made that the policy would change, but they are going to look at it. Brian will follow up with the Association after that meeting and when a decision has been made.
  2. Brian will bring forward a suggestion to reach out to the NYPTA for input on issues involving physical therapy benefits. Again, no promises were made that this would happen, but he will bring it forward.
  3. The suggestion was made that CDPHP put a follow-up article in the next edition of Smart Moves explaining that if a person uses all of their physical therapy benefits through chiropractic visits, those benefits will not be available for conditions or episodes that require the services of a physical therapist (stroke was used as an example).

The NYPTA will continue to play an active role in encouraging CDPHP to change their inappropriate position on the utilization of physical therapy benefits.
