Course Description: This lecture and short lab will review the current and historical literature on the common musculoskeletal condition and etiology of plantar fasciitis.  It will review the management of this condition based on the literature and will include review of differential diagnosis, the structure and function of the medial longitudinal ligament, windlass mechanism and the intrinsic foot musculature.  It will review the current treatment options including the modality of ultrasound and will explore the current literature in treatment in manual therapy, strength training and stretching prescription. 

 

Presenter: Suzanne Debauche, PT, DPT

Suzanne Debauche, PT, DPT is an Orthopedic Physical Therapist with a Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree from Loma Linda University graduating in June 2001. Dr. Debauche is a full time Orthopedic Physical Therapist at St. Peter's Health Partners with 17 years of experience in the clinical orthopedic outpatient setting.  She has presented clinical education and staff development based on the literature in orthopedic management of the postoperative hip and shoulder.  Dr. Debauche has been the primary principal investigator for the study "The Effect of Ultrasound and Exercise in the Management of Plantar Fasciitis: A Double-Blinded Randomized Controlled Trial" in collaboration with the Sage College School of Physical Therapy and was the platform presenter at the NYPTA Conference on 10/20/18 and the platform presenter at the CSM on 2/23/18. She was awarded the Robert Salant Award in the Clinical Research Category in 2017.  Her current study "The Effectiveness of Ultrasound Treatment in the Management of Plantar Fasciitis: A Randomized, Placebo-Controlled Study" is currently under review by the Institutional Review Board at the Sage Colleges.
