Worker's Compensation Reforms & PT Advocacy

Speaker Biography

Brendan Sullivan, PT, DPT, OCS, MTC, MSCS, CSCS is an ABPTS Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) and owner of the Empire Health & Wellness Center in Latham, NY. He is active in both the Workers Compensation Research Institute (WCRI) NY Advisory Committee & New York Physical Therapy Association (NYPTA) Public Policy Committee.  He is a fellow in training with the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists (AAOMPT) through Evidence in Motion (EIM). 

 


 

Course Description

The New York Workers Compensation system is over 100 years old and has served millions of its citizens.  The system has provided lost wages and medical care to the injured worker since its inception in 1914.  In 2010, the WCB adopted Medical Treatment Guidelines as one component aimed at modernizing the system.  Physical therapists play a vital role in caring for injured workers and forthcoming reforms will impact daily practice.  Specific topics to be discussed include; Medical Treatment Guidelines, Medical Fee Schedule/RVU cap, NYCIRB reports, variance submissions, documentation requirements, medical portal, provider participation, evidence-based practice, opioid prescribing patterns and PT advocacy.

 

This course is open to PTs, PTAs, &Students
