Rehabilitation of Balance and Vestibular System Disorders

Presented by: Arturo Miguel, PT, MS, MBA


Rehabilitation of Balance and Vestibular System Disorders is an evidence based introductory course that will train clinicians in identifying balance and vestibular impairments and formulating comprehensive treatment plans for their patients in an inpatient and outpatient setting.  This course will include a detailed review of balance senses and balance strategies as well as discussion of balance screens and treatment considerations.  In addition, there will be a brief introduction into vestibular therapy including anatomy and physiology of the vestibular system, oculomotor screening and treatment techniques. The material will be presented in lecture, demonstration, lab and video format. 


Course participants will be able to:

1)    Observe and identify deficits affecting balance senses and balance systems.

2)    Demonstrate competence in performing balance and oculomotor screens.

3)    Formulate fall risk assessment and intervention plan.

4)    Develop and execute evidence based treatment plans for patients with balance and/or vestibular dysfunctions including BPPV and vestibular weakness.



 Speaker Biography

  Arturo Miguel, PT, MS, MBA, is a licensed Physical Therapist who specializes in the assessment and treatment of balance and vestibular dysfunction.  Arturo has over 17 years of clinical experience and is currently working as the lead PT in the Balance and Vestibular Clinic at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, NY, a part of the Northwell Health System.  Arturo is also a member of Northwell’s concussion team which spans over all outpatient clinics within the system.


 Arturo received extensive training in balance and vestibular rehabilitation including successful completion of the APTA vestibular competency course taught by Susan Herdman and colleagues at Emory University in Atlanta, GA.  Arturo received his Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from Touro College, and his MBA in Health Services Management from Hofstra University.

Breakfast and Registration will begin at 7:30am - Please join us before the event for breakfast and coffee!

This course will run 9:00am - 4:30pm, with two short breaks, and one lunch break. Lunch will be on your own.
