JOIN US FOR our NYPTA Advocacy Workshop: Turning Passion into Progress!

Thursday October 17th from 2:30pm-6:30pm

This ½ day workshop will prepare attendees to successfully advocate for physical therapy in a manner that is consistent with the most recent evidence supporting our profession. Participants will learn how to identify their state legislators, schedule appointments to meet with representatives, and locate current legislative issues relevant to PT practice. Participants will receive talking points and will actively practice delivering key messages necessary to lead a persuasive discussion. There will be a particular focus on issues such as enhanced direct access, co-payment reform, the opioid epidemic, and the benefits of increased access to physical therapy.

By the end of the session, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the process to locate their district legislators and schedule meetings
  • Identify sources to learn about key state legislative issues affecting physical therapy practice
  • Successfully utilize APTA and NYPTA resources including key talking points, information related to the NYS legislature, and instructions for carrying out a successful legislative meeting
  • Effectively convey targeted and succinct messages regarding the benefits of physical therapy and NY legislative priorities

The New York Physical Therapy Association (NYPTA) Conference is a statewide education event for physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and students of physical therapy. Association members and non-members are welcome to attend educational sessions offering up to 13 hours of continuing education credits in two days. In addition to the educational seminars, we offer poster presentations, networking opportunities, and an exhibit hall featuring suppliers from throughout the state and country who have services to offer our profession. The conference presents a great opportunity for organizations and companies to showcase their information and services to an attentive audience of physical therapists, physical therapist assistants and students.
