Falls Prevention Awareness

September 22, 2016

Falls Prevention Awareness Day is celebrated during the month of September, on the first day of autumn.

Falls are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries for older Americans.  Falls threaten seniors’ safety and independence, and result in massive personal and economic costs.  However, falling does not need to be an inevitable part of life for aging adults. Falls Prevention Awareness Day seeks to shine a spotlight on how to prevent these life altering injuries, through lifestyle adjustments, evidence based falls prevention programs, and clinical community partnerships.

The NYPTA in conjunction with the National Council on Aging wants to help Physical Therapy Professionals promote awareness of Falls Prevention. Check out the resources below for tools to share the message.

Enter your event into the NYPTA GOLDEN GONIOMETER CONTEST!

We want to raise awareness about Falls Prevention Awareness events and the impact our profession has on the health and well-being of the public. The NYPTA Public Relations Committee is challenging all NYPTA districts to the second annual Public Relations contest. The District that demonstrates the greatest amount of public awareness activities within the months of September and October will be presented with the 2016 Golden Goniometer award.

These events can be a variety of activities related to Falls Prevention Awareness — they just need to reflect the core values of being a physical therapist or promote the value of physical therapy. Anyone is welcome to submit an entry. To enter, please send the following information to PR@nypta.org by November 4th:

1.      Your name
