It’s late at night. The winds are harsh, the storm is near and the lights go out. Blaring sounds of fire engines at first seemed distant and suddenly nearby. This time your weatherman got it right. Do you remember the last time you saw the 72 hour survival kit you packed a couple of years ago? Somehow it was relocated and some items were used. It is too dark to see, the cell phone doesn’t work. Regret time is on its way. Wasn’t your son due home an hour ago? The rest of the family is awake now and depending on your wherewithal to pull them through these vulnerable moments for an undetermined period of time.

What plan do you have in place to protect your family? Do you have an elderly neighbor who needs assurance or help? Had you ever thought about the community at large or your role in it should the unimaginable happen? Do people in your area know where to go if you need community shelter? There are many things to do to be prepared for such an extreme event.
