Brendan Sullivan Named Medical Honoree of
Arthritis Foundation’s 2016 Walk to Cure Arthritis
Albany, NY – March 2, 2016 – The Arthritis Foundation announced today that Brendan Sullivan, PT, CSCS, owner of Empire Health & Wellness Center, has been named the Medical Honoree of the 2016 Capital District Walk to Cure Arthritis.
More than 400 people are expected to participate in the Walk to Cure Arthritis taking place on Saturday, May 14 at Halfmoon Town Park. The Walk to Cure Arthritis is the Arthritis Foundation’s signature, nationwide event that raises awareness of the prevalence of arthritis among people of all ages and funds for programming and research to find a cure.
“I am honored to be the medical honoree of the Walk to Cure Arthritis,” said Sullivan. “In New York State alone, there are more than 3.6 million people, including 18,400 children, living with arthritis. By walking together, we are shining a light on the impact of arthritis on adults, children and their caregivers. We are also raising critical funds for programs, initiatives and research that will chart a new course for all those who struggle with this disease.”
Sullivan’s interest in physical therapy began when his sister was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at age three. “I saw early on how arthritis was a lifelong struggle for many and knew that I wanted to do my part to make a difference in their lives.”
“We are thrilled to have Brendan as our Walk Medical Honoree,” said Heidi Barcomb, Community Development Manager, Arthritis Foundation, Northeastern New York Chapter. “He is a devoted professional and advocate for people living with arthritis.
Sullivan began practicing physical therapy in 1997 after earning his degree from Utica College of Syracuse University. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditional Association. He opened Empire Health & Wellness Center in 2000, providing fitness services and physical therapy to people with a range of needs.
The New York Physical Therapy Association is proud of Sullivan's contributions to the search for a cure, as well as his work to help those who live with arthritis every day.
The Walk to Cure Arthritis is nationally presented by Amgen and sponsored by Massage Envy and Aleve.
