Call for Abstracts

The Research Committee is currently seeking abstracts for the 2010 APTAnj and  NYPTA Continuing Education Conference to be held  Saturday, October 16 at the Sheraton Atlantic City Convention Center Hotel.

Robert Salant Awards

A Robert Salant Award in the amount of $100 will be presented to the authors of the outstanding abstract in each of the three categories.


Abstracts will be accepted in the following three categories:

A. Clinical Research
B. Basic Science Research
C. Case Reports

If you are unsure which category is appropriate for your abstract, please contact Patricia Ohtake, PT, PhD, Research Committee Chair.

All submitted abstracts should include the language and principles of the Guide to Physical Therapist Practice. Abstracts must be received electronically by  February 27, 2010 at 5 pm. Abstracts are to be emailed to Bibiana Braun at research@nypta.org. There will be no exceptions to this deadline.

Submission Procedures

Please email a two page Word document.

Page 1 - Identifying information:

1. Title of the presentation
2. Abstract Category
3. Author(s) - Indicate student members with an asterisk
4. Affiliation of the Primary Author
5. Place where the work was done
6. Names, addresses, e-mail addresses and phone numbers of all authors
7. Indication of which author will serve as the contact person

Page 2 - Abstracts should be no more than 250 words and conform to the following guidelines:

ABSTRACT FORMAT: CLINICAL RESEARCH ABSTRACTS
1. Purpose, rationale and/or hypothesis
2. Study design
3. A brief description of methods including subjects, procedure, outcome measures and data analysis
4. Results
5. Conclusions

ABSTRACT FORMAT: BASIC SCIENCE RESEARCH ABSTRACTS
1. Purpose, rationale and/or hypothesis
2. Study design
3. A brief description of methods including procedure and data analysis
4. Results
5. Clinical relevance to physical therapy

ABSTRACT FORMAT: CASE REPORTS
1. Purpose
2. Case Description (history, systems review)
3. Examination (tests and measures) and Evaluation
4. Diagnosis and Prognosis
5. Interventions
6. Outcomes
7. Clinical relevance to physical therapy

Selection Process

Abstracts will be distributed without identifying information to members of the Research Committee. Members of the committee will evaluate all abstracts on the basis of scientific and clinical merit. Authors will be notified about the status of their abstracts as soon as possible after the deadline.
