What Is the New York Student Special Interest Group (NYSSIG)?

The NYSSIG is a group formed under the New York Chapter that will allow PT and PTA students a means to meet, confer and promote interest of its classes, the NY Chapter, and the APTA.

Objectives of the NYSSIG:
  • Provide for the exchange of information between NYSSIG members concerning issues confronting the profession of physical therapy.
  • Identify and respond to areas of concern relating to NYSSIG members.
  • Promote the role of the physical therapist and the physical therapist assistant.
  • Promote membership in and understanding of the APTA, NY Chapter, and NYSSIG among students.
  • Represent the interests of NYSSIG members before the official decision-making bodies of the NY Chapter, APTA, and other components.
  • Assist the NY Chapter and the APTA in furthering the profession of physical therapy in NY.
  • Prepare NYSSIG members for future participation and leadership roles within the APTA and the profession.
Benefits of the NYSSIG:
  • Networking with students in your state.
  • Contacts with professionals across your state.
  • Opportunities to find mentors and be mentored.
  • Develop leadership skills.
  • Receive important information about the working of your state chapter and your future as a PT or PTA.
