Repeated Incremental "Predictable" Perturbations (RIPPS): Stepping Responses Associated with Fall History in Older Adults

Louis DePasquale, PT, MA, Inventor, RIPPS Balance Method

Course Objectives:

  1. Describe the RIPPS Balance Method assessment protocol
  2. Understand percent of total body weight as an objective clinical fall risk identification performance measure
  3. Identify need for reactive and perturbation based assessment and training
  4. Provide neurophysiological foundations for perturbation- based assessment of and intervention for stepping response deficits
  5. Differentiate between fallers and non-fallers based upon induced stepping responses
  6. Identify meaningful stepping responses associated with fall history
  7. Compare most recent laboratory obtained stepping data with RIPPS obtained stepping data
  8. Provide insight into clinical applications of stepping responses associated with older adult fallers
  9.  Describe stepping training programs described in recent studies
