Course Description

The purpose of this course is to teach evidence based practice in thrust manipulation of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. This course will teach the clinical decision making used for spinal manipulation, current statistics, analysis of outcomes from clinically relevant research, safety measures and screening required prior to providing this manual intervention. Additionally, students will be taught the psychomotor skills to perform spinal manipulation techniques of the cervical, thoracic, lumbar and sacroiliac joint regions as well as mobility exercises to compliment the manual techniques learned.

Educational Objectives:

1)    Conduct an accurate differential diagnosis of spinal conditions and recognize when referral is appropriate.

2)    Conduct a comprehensive evaluation of spinal regions. This will include evidence based tests/measures with high diagnostic properties and identify comparable/asterisk signs

3)    Identify contraindication/precautions when choosing to implement thrust manipulation as an intervention.

4)    Participants will identify and understand the proper application involved in spinal mobility corrective exercises.

5)    Identify and apply sound clinical decision making supported by current best evidence when choosing to use thrust manipulation.

6)    Participants will be able to demonstrate appropriate psychomotor skills for all techniques learned.

Course Cost: $500

Continuing Education Credits: 18 hours approved for NYS.
