Attention Columbia Students!
Two of your fellow classmates have put together a campus wide activity to promote the #ChoosePT Campaign, and PT Day of Service, two great initiatives that take place during October, which is National Physical Therapy Month. Check out the below event information!
The goal of PT day is to show our campus community how varied PT is. We aim to highlight all the great ways to get up and get moving when you are not at work, as well as how to be safe at work.
Thursday October 6th at 10am the CUMC campus comes alive with PT. Students from DPT I, II and III will take over common areas at school all dressed in their DPT finest gear.
There will be stations set up at various locations around the campus, promoting different wellness ideas and activity to incorporate into everyday life.
Get Moving at Lunch: Here we want to promote different lunch activity options such as:
·Maps of different walking paths to enhance the number of steps taken in a day
·Chair yoga options
·Maps of different stairwells around campus for those that want to feel the burn
Ergonomics: At this station we want to set up a mock desk showing proper seat height, computer screen height, working distances and other things that should be taken into consideration. We will have flyers so that folks can fix their ergonomics and perhaps student will be willing to make office visits to help employees adjust their spaces.
City Cycling: Through promotion at all the bike racks we want to invite folks to learn about cycling form, technique, common injuries and cycling based care for the body. Additionally, we want to offer maps of local courses that people can take to get in a few extra miles before heading to work or before heading home.
From Desk to 5K: This station is inspired by RunLab. Here we will talk running form, training plans and common injuries. We would like to offer maps with routes around here for those in the area who want to start with a mile or more.
Treats and Swag: Here we can offer healthy (and maybe not so healthy) snacks and PT Swag for sale!
*Stay tuned for more details on the event, as well as locations for the stations.
