Membership Meeting
August 9, 2007
The general membership meeting convened at 6:00 pm at the Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, NY. Pizza, salad and beverages were served to those attending. Eleven members were in attendance.

- Announcements: A thank you was given to the Samaritan Medical Center for hosting the meeting and to Jeff for arranging refreshments.

Director: Jill Dungey: absent, no report
Co-Chair: Mary Alice Minor: the Central District has received a letter recognizing their purchase of a business ad for the Celebration of Diversity. Mary Alice additionally initiated a discussion about the PT Month Obesity programs that are being planned regionally. Mary Alice announced that the District is trying to have meetings around the District to attract members. The September 13th meeting has been changed from Syracuse to Utica. Details about the meeting will be in the newsletter. The November meeting will be in Syracuse.
Karen Kemmis reported on the July 27th membership meeting and reception for Dr. Moffet in Syracuse. The event was well-attended and Dr. Moffet presented on fitness and obesity. Following her presentation Dr. Moffet signed copies of her book. The DPT students collected approximately $4000 in donations and fees for the job fair towards the Marquette-Pittsburgh Challenge
Vice-Chair: Sue Yenoli: asked for volunteers to work on the Program Committee and for suggestions for topics for membership meetings.
Nominating Committee: Stacey Ziegler: reported that the following offices will be up for election in March 2008: Co-Chair, Recording Secretary, Treasurer and Delegates for Delegate Assembly. If anyone is interested in these positions or would like to recommend a candidate, they should contact Stacey, Karen Kemmis or Kelly Kowalczyk.
Treasurer: Molly Crist: absent. Mary Alice Minor reported that the District has $5488.00 in their account.
Corresponding Secretary: Dana Olzenak: Dana asked for volunteers to manage the web page. She additionally asked that any information for the next newsletter be forwarded to her by the first 2 weeks in September.
Recording Secretary: Anne Marie Abt: minutes from all meetings will be posted on the web page and members are encouraged to access them.
There were no reports from any Liaisons.
- Business: New and Old:
Pat VanBeveren announced that a new law has been passed that PT”s may accept referrals from midwifes. This is effective immediately.
Dale Avers has a program on “Fitness is a Family Affair” that she is willing to share with members. She can be contacted at Upstate Medical University.
Mary Alice Minor will be hosting a “Celebration of PT’s” in October in Potsdam to recognize and celebrate the work of physical therapists. She can be contacted for details.
Following the business meeting, Mary Alice Minor presented a power point presentation on Using Literature to Support Practice. The presentation was insightful and a discussion followed.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:22 pm.
